Just When We Thought We’d Arrived, Here Comes 3D

It seems like we just got high definition under our belts at work and at home and now here comes 3D. The 3D capable sets are rolling off the assembly line for fall delivery and there are even components, like AV receivers, that are coming out in 3D versions. You might ask, “Why would an AV receiver need to be 3D?  Is it just hype or what?” Actually, to get the full 1080p high rez 3D from 3D Blu-ray Disc players you’ll need to upgrade to HDMI 1.4.
You probably have HDMI 1.2 or 1.3 so it’s time to upgrade again. Because these receivers often act as the control center for systems routing audio and video, they have to be HDMI 1.4 compliant.
Of course you don’t need TV at all to see 3D.  Oops, I forgot to include the special red and blue glasses you’d need to view this picture properly. Oh well, you can just do what I did and swipe a pair out of Spy Kids Game Over or Voyage to the Center of the Earth. Just don’t forget to put them back when you’re through.
